Orlyn and Marit Kringstad founded Nordic Home (now Nordic Home North) in 2001. Their background in bringing high-quality Scandinavian home furnishings, rugs and interiors, custom-designed with a uniquely Nordic touch, can be traced back centuries to their family’s deep Norwegian roots.

Nordic Home North features beautiful hand-knotted rugs, perfect for home or cabin. These thick & plush, or soft & subtle rugs are hand-knotted in Nepal using 100% Tibetan wool. Rug collections feature numerous designers and range from Contemporary, Native American, Nordic, Traditional and more. Each rug features the GoodweaveTM which ensures no child labor was used in its production.

Nordic Home North specializes in custom rugs. Most rug designs may be ordered in custom sizes and colors for no additional charge. There are numerous rugs in stock available for immediate purchase.

Orlyn's background includes six years living and working in Norway from 1972 to 1978 during Norway’s early “IT” years, serving as Data Center Manager for a large building products firm, and twelve years as Chief Fraternal Officer for the fraternal benefits insurance organization Sons of Norway. With most of his extended family in Norway and his long association with business in Norway, the transition to export/import between Norway was not unusual.

Marit spent numerous childhood summers in Norway visiting her grandparents and large extended family. She attended Augustana College in South Dakota and participated in the HECUA program at the University of Oslo, fall/winter of 78/79. Her earlier professional career has been devoted to children. Marit is a licensed Social Worker and has served in various positions including Director of Social Services for 15 years at Plymouth Christian Youth Center in North Minneapolis.

Most recently Marit worked with the Nobel Peace Prize Forum at Augsburg College. In 2015 the Forum was proud to host Nobel Peace Prize recipient President Jimmy Carter and in 2016 the Founder of Rugmark Kailash Satyarthi. Rugmark is now GoodWeave®.

Every Nordic Home North's rug carries the prestigious GoodweaveTM label which is your best assurance that it was made using no child labor. Marit’s deep Norwegian roots, along with her many Norwegian experiences and commitment to children made her transition into the Rugmark® (now GoodweaveTM) project a natural.

Nordic Home North also sells quality giftware for homes and cabins, often with a Nordic touch.
