Product Name:  Pine Needles Rug Dark Background

Product ID: LJ-50PineNeedlesDark

Vendor: Omari Rugs

Manufacturer: Everest Handicraft Industries Rugs

Description: The Saami are the indigenous people of northern Europe, traditionally herding reindeer across northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and Russia. Their ancient religion was animistic. To them nature possessed a soul and had powers accessible to those who would open up and listen. Before the 17th century and the arrival of Christianity, the Saami were known as powerful sorcerers. Their shamans cast spells that traveled on the north wind to far away places. With the aid of drums covered in mystical symbols the shaman’s soul could travel to other worlds to talk with the gods to seek advice, heal the sick and predict the future. The figures emerging out of the pine needles in this Saami inspired Pine Needle Blanket were found on these sacred drums. They represent the gods and goddesses responsible for the conception and birth of a human being. Earth Man, Varaldenolmmai, god of fertility, holds a young birch tree with its roots facing up. Earth Woman, Maddarakka, received the human soul from the sun and handed it to her daughter Sarakka, the midwife, who allowed the soul into the womb. Juoksakka, the Bow Woman, determined the sex of the child. The center structure represents an altar or temple constructed of reindeer antlers and birch branches.

Product ID: LJ-032

Vendor: Omari Rugs

Manufacturer: Everest Handicraft Industries Rugs

Description: The Woodlands Indians believed all wisdom and knowledge came to them in their dreams. By testing their dreams they learned their own strength. A young Ojibwe man had a dream in which he was visited by a bear. The strength and power of this sacred animal then became his to call on whenever he had need for it. Later in his life his wife became very sick and the man feared for her life. He quickly painted the likeness of the bear on a blanket and placed it over his wife. The spirit of the bear entered her body and it's powerful medicine soon restored her to health.

Product Name:  Wolf Legend Rug

Product ID: LJ-020

Vendor: Omari Rugs

Manufacturer: Everest Handicraft Industries Rugs

Description: The wolf was a powerful teacher admired by early Native Americans for its intelligence, strength, skill and endurance. It taught them to be successful hunters through the value of cooperation, quiet movement and careful observation. Capable of great tenderness, it taught them fidelity to family. And it represented wisdom because it only hunted what it needed to survive, leaving nature's balance intact. "In ancient times, the wolf was our companion," says Jim Brandenburg, who has spent many years studying and photographing the wolf. "It certainly was our teacher. As a vital part of a fully functioning ecosystem, the wolf can again serve as our teacher, reminding us that two species sharing similar ecological niches might also share similar fates."
